Racial Harmony Day

To me, Racial Harmony Day means to be united and the well-known phrase: live in harmony. In Singapore,as you know, there are 3 main races, the Chinese, the Indians and the Malays. In collaboration of the racial harmony day schools normally give privillege to student to come dressed in their ethnic costumes. From what I've have observed that most of the chinese students in our school come in their school uniforms. What I suggest is that students should atleast try to wear cross dress but ofcourse there's no forcing.Sinagpore is well-known to be a united country. If tourists visit Singapore there's no nessasity of asking more about Sinagpore. They would have straightaway noticed that Singapore is a multi-racial society. To promote racial harmony, schools conduct mini activites such as learning how to play other cultures' games, learning about the culture itself or having to try a few dishes of different races. One observation made from our class is that some of them tend to be sort of racist at times but most of the time they are fine. Just penning down my thoughts.

Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong mooted the concept of "Inter-Racial Confidence Circles" (IRCC) for the constituencies and "Harmony Circles" (HCs) for schools, work places and other local organizations in January 2002. The primary purpose of IRCCs is to provide a regular platform for leaders of the various racial and religious communities to interact and get to know one another better. This will build confidence, friendship and trust among them.Preserving racial harmony is the key to singapore's success. You don't have to look very far in your country's short history on how the preservation of racial harmony placed singapore on the roadmap to wealth and prosperity.

This reminds me of our national pledge:

We the citizens of Singapore, pledge ourselves as one united people. Regardless of race, language or religion, to build a democratic society, based on justice and equality, so as to achieve happiness, prosperity, and progress for our nation. This is also one of the ways the government promotes racial harmony in Singapore.

Secondary Two Camp

On the 4th july, everyone were ready and all set to go on our camping journey. As we boarded the bus, the excitement and energy had already filled the air in the bus. Once we reached our destination, we assembled in the Multi Purpose Hall(MPH) in our respective groups. Ok let me zoom in and talk about the activities lined up on the 1st day of camp. I was in group 14. Group 13 and 14 are joined groups. The very first thing we did was to play the Ice Breaker Game . Well, it's jsut a game whereby you introduce yourself and play games. My combined group started off with the introduction of instrucotrs. They are Instructors:Joseph, oliver and Khairul. Then we all introduced ourself and played a few games. We decided to call ourselves the ICE CUBES. Without ice there's not cube and without cube there's no ice. SWEET ! Group 14 is CUBES while 13 is called ICE.

The activities we did were:Rafting,Challenge Rope and Abscaling. In rafting i learnt how to tie various types of knots to build a raft using big and small poles. WE,the ICE CUBES, used the barrels to hold down the poles and make it higher. Everyone were working together as a team using various strategies and all the brains put togethjer. We mixed the ideas together in a pot: sugar, spice and everything nice and chemical X and finally built a raft. It was time to bring it down to shore and test it out. Group 13's raft fell apart straightaway even before in went into the water. The cubes' raft too fell apart but it managed to go a few metres from the shore. Though it didn't stay together, we had a lot of fun building it. Abscaling, I didn't go for it. the challenge rope course was very fun. Everyone who went on it, did tai chi before they got their balance including myself !
We had our meals at the fixed times . Day 1 was kind of haywire as everyone took their time to get their food in the afternoon and so our activites got delayed. The food was alright. Not too bad and not very good either. The vegetables tasted kind of disgusting or rather uncooked. On the 2nd day of camp the ICE CUBES' very first activity was kayaking ! All my team-mates were extremely excited until we became realy dissapointed.Reason? All of us wore our PFD(Personal Floating Device) and brought down the boats. We went into the waters and tried to jump backwards on the water to practice floating until the wind started blowing real hard and cold. The instrcuotr then received information from the camp manager not to let us into the waters as it's risky. Obviously everyone went,"Aww man ! ".

Totally dissapointing to miss such a rare chance like this. Therefore, the instructors taught us dry paddling. We learnt how to paddle in a more detailed way. The only satisfaction I had was that atleast I learnt more about paddling safer and better. After wash up we went under Hut 13 or 14 if I'm not wrong, and rehearsed for the campfire performance. One of my team-mate came up with an idea to put up a skit that's about Yishun Idol and the contestants do something silly and wrong contestants for wrong competition.Everyone were alright with it and we sticked to the idea. Ok i shall talk more about the performace later. After the rain, came the shine. It was high elements time. I didn't go on any as I was busy cheering my dear friend,Jeyashiri, to keep on going as she went on the rope balance and got stuck. She got too scared and didn't want to move. From what had happened, I learnt from her not to give up. Once you are up there, believe in yourself that no obstacles can prevent you from doing what you want to do ! Trust and confidence is what msot people lack and need to build it up.

Sorry I missed this: On the 1st day, the final activity of the day was the Night Confidence Walk. All the groups were out there siting and waiting for their turn to go in the dark. Some of my team-mates actually got sort of fustrated as we were the last team and in almost everything we were the last one to go. After waiting for what seemed like days(as we were waiting for exactly 1 hour and 40 min), our turn was up. the last group to go. After walking a few distance we were split up into threes. The two girls besdie me got very scared and started talking very loudly. I didn't reply them as i was busy admiring the beautiful night sky and so they shouted my name. lol. Seriously if you looked above your head it's quite peaceful and nice. Then suddenly out of nowhere jumped out the sissy instructor. I don't know his name. He shouted,"BOO ! ". Both girls beside me screamed in my ears especially the girl in the middle.I was standing on the right in the corner. Our walk was over. Once all our team-mates finished their walk.,we headed back to the assembly area. We cheered and sang songs in the MPH. Everyone's favourite were the underwear song and the burning song. The underwear song was written and sang by Instructor Melvin aka sexy dancer himself. It goes like this:

I no money I dun care,
I buy cheap cheap underwear.
When it tear,I dun care u go buy me another pair.
I buy cartoon underwear.digimon, pokemon, doremon also can.
Underwear,good to wear.
Underwear everywhere.

Fianlly it was showtime ! Once everyone sat around the campfire,Mr Nor was honored to offcially open the campfire. After singing a few songs, chief Eunis called out asking which group wanted to perform first. My group,THE ICE CUBES, screamt very loud and so Chief Eunis chose us. My team-mates were so on-going and all set to rock the show.

My group was so funny ! Especially the Mr Beans ! Mr Beans were Yunizar and Aniruth. Yunizar was so funny . It was my instructors' idea . They tucked it their shirt and pull up their shorts DAMN DAMN HIGH and looked like geeks just for the performance . It was a YISHUN IDOL but people entered the auditions for dance and stupid stuffs. The Mr Beans did a funny dance of this song: mr bean ofcourse then followed by Captain Planet a cartoon song. Here it is. Listen to it:

This was the funniest and my most favourite!! Yunizar was so funny ! Then after them was my turn. I and my fellow friends were called the DEVIL CHOIR. We sang a nursery rhyme song:If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands and everyone were to clap in different beats and directions. the two girls beside me:Caroline and Xiao Han are step each others' legs and pick up a fight. Not really a fight. I'm suppose to stop them. Though it may sound lame, when it comes to fun there's no room for lameness nor sillyness ! The judges not happy so called the bouncers to throw us out. Then keep going on. After the campfire my indian friends and I had a plan . Then Thiviyya and I went to talk to Instructor Joseph about it and he went to ask Chief Eunis to ask for permission to carry out the plan . They agreed ! whoo ! Then i went to gather all the indian girls and told them about the cool plan and they were so in it ! Then 12 midnight came. We sneaked out quietly out of the huts and Manju,Soniyah,Jeyashiri and Rachana joined us. We headed to the MPH and the instructors were all ready to go fetch the girl who was GEETHA ! It was GEETHA'S birthday on 6th july . Therefore, we planned to do it exactly on the day friday the 6th july was born to make it extra special... SWEET ! The instructors were so cool . Chief Eunis and Joseph went to Geetha's hut and called her in a strcit voice saying that she was found with the lost wallet of the teacher's and wanted to speak to her in the MPH . Geetha got so scared already. They came to the MPH while we were hiding . Geetha sat down on the stage and Chief Eunis was talking to her like she really did it. That's when we came out singing Happy Birthday song, careful not to wake the others sleeping in their huts . She got so damn surprised and so touched that she went to hug everyone and thanked us. Mr Tan who was there wished her too and Mr Tan was so nice to warn us that she was coming already and time to hide. It was a sweet night for the birthday girl: GEETHA ! We headed off to bed feeling happy for Geetha. It was a mission accomplished !

The next morning we packed our stuffs and assembled at the car park. Every group went off for their area cleaning. My group cleaned the huts. A lot of us found many shoes and underwears too ! But ofcourse I didn't touch it. I only threw the plastic bags found everywhere(a lot of them actually) . Those who picked up the underwears sang the underwear song ! Myg roup was so hillarious. I love them and the instructors of my group: Oliver,Joseph and Khairul. My favourite instrucotrs are:Oliver,Joseph,Khairul,Jaslyn,Melvin(sexy dancer),Hafiz and Chief Eunis ! After the area cleaning time for prize presentation. Group 1 won the best group, Shawn won the best male camper and Louis the best female camper. They all deserved it ! Finally, home sweet home. i will teasure the sweet memories the camp gave me and never to give up motto. Not forgetting to apply the skills I learnt in the furture or even the present.

The Most Memorable Day in My Life

The most memorable day in my life is when I and my friends got lost in Singapore! Here's what actually happened: There was a choir outing and we were going to East Coast Beach. We first met the seniors in the yishun interchange and then go together to East Coast. Then we took a bus 858 and got down at Changi Airpot. From there we took another bus, 36 if I'm not wrong. We all got down near Victoria Junior College and walked very far ! We thought the senniors knew the way but they didn't ! We were walking and walking, and asking passer-bys for directions. Trust me, you would rather just go home !

Fianlly we found our way and reached there. Then we played games and were treated to Macdonalds. During lunch time, we were given one hour so most of us went to Funland ! It was so fun there ! We went back to our shelter and played more games. After having so much fun,we were dismissed to go home on our own. Ms Lovy Ng told everyone to take the free shuttle bus from the carpark. I and my indian friends went for bowling first before going home. I and my indian friends hit strikes ! Then we called it a day and headed to the carpark but we couldn't find any bus stops anywhere. There was a security post there so I and my friends went to ask the security guard about the shuttle service and guess what he said !? He said it no longer exists ! We were like,"WHAT THE !!" . So we walked further to see if there were any bus stops, but none at sight ! We then decided to call our other friends who went back home before us but none of them answered our calls! Damned !

After walking so far, we found the underpass and came out with blocks ahead. We knew that we were definitely lost !! Again, we walked till we dropped and came to the Marine Parade Police Station. We thought of going in and asking for help but a bus stop caught our eyes. We went to check it out and thank god there were two buses that we could take. One was 853 and the other was 76 that goes to Ang Mo Kio. We waited 30 mintues for 853 bus to arrive but none showed up . Then bus 76 arrived and we took it. The time was already 6.15pm when we boarded the bus ! It was a double decker bus and so we went upstairs and the bus was totally empty ! So we sat right at the back laughing and cracking jokes which we love to do. One thing we were really going crazy about, the bus was so slow !! It was terribly slow !

The bus was moving as slow as a turtle. I predicted that I would only go home at 8pm. As what I thought, we reached Ang Mo Kio 1 hour later and I and my friends still needed to take the train! We hurried to the MRT station and boarded the train and reached home! When I got home, I was so relieved and shared my experiences with my family and friends. I learnt how to be independant and find my way home using my brains. It was the most memorable day in my life indeed !

IF ONLY

If only I was problem-free,
Life would be calm and cool !

If only I could break free and fly,
I will soar up high.

If only I was the school's discipline head mistress,
I will make the school go mad! nah, just kidding!

If only tests and exams were easier,
Life would be less stressful.

If only I had one wish which will be commanded,
I would wish to have a very successful life.

If only I studied for Science,
I would have done better in it.

If only there was a camera installed in the school hall,
my classmates' handphones would not have gotten lost.

If only there was peace and no hatred,,
the world will be a wonderful place to live in.

If Only ...

ONLINE GAMES DO NOT HELP YOUTHS

Online games do not help youths on my account. Why do I say so? I understand very well the allure of online games role-playing games because, beyond the game content, you're interacting with real people and we humans are social creatures. There's nothing more rewarding than interacting with another person. But if youths spend so much of their time turned to a virtual world, will they be able to tell the difference between the real world and the fantasy world?

There are now 30 studies and almost all of them show increased aggression after playing, both short-term and long-term. It's a fact that violent cyber games do beget violent kids, so don't think it's just inncoent fun.Not only that, recently, a17 yr-old youth who was banned by his mother from msurfing the net, resorted to illegally tapping into a neighbour's wireless network to get online and to play games.

Youths are becoming more addictive to online games and say this to their families when banned from the computer,"I can't live without using the computer". Gaming addiction is Sinagpore's biggest youth problem because of the number of hours a youth spends engrossed in a game. Eating, drinking, showering and sleeping become secondary to the game, and the interaction with family around them obviously dwindles to a minimal level, or none at all. Hence, it is completely anti-social.

These are my responses whether online games help youths or not.

The Strangest Person I have Ever Met[2nd post]

I just read about a real stroy of a girl named,Angélique Cottin, who had became known as 'The Electric Girl', or the 'Poltergeist Girl'.Here's what i read:

Angélique Cottin was a Normandy peasant girl of 'small stature' who had a bizarre affect on objects and people (now called psychokinesis). Indeed, the apparently supernatural / psychic phenomena which she 'produced' are very similar to those more normally associated with poltergeists. Angélique became known as 'The Electric Girl', or the 'Poltergeist Girl' and her case, though certainly not unique, was one of the first of a 'paranormal' type to be scientifically investigated. As such Angélique Cottin is deserving of serious attention not only from parapsychologist and students of psychic research but from sceptics outside the paranormal field as well.

The strange phenomena that haunted the girl began in the town of La Perrière, France, on January 15, 1846, when Angélique was 14. It was eight o'clock in the evening, and Angélique, together with some other girls, was weaving silk gloves on an oak frame, when suddenly the frame began to shake as if it were alive. The girls couldn't keep it still no matter what they tried. They became distressed and called the neighbours, who didn't believe them and told them to carry on with their work. So they returned slowly, one by one, to the weaving frame, which remained still until Angélique came near, then it again began dancing around again. All the girls were afraid, but Angélique also felt a strange attraction towards the frame. When Angélique's parents found out about the incident they thought she must be possessed.

So they took her to the presbytery in order to have her exorcised. But the curate would have none of it, instead he wanted to witness the strange phenomenon for himself, and, after doing so, and convincing himself it was physical, advised her parents to take the girl to a medical doctor.Meanwhile, Angélique's bizarre condition worsened. When she attempted to sit in a chair, it was pulled or pushed away; and such was the power of the force that a strong man couldn't hold down the chair. A heavy 60 pound table floated up from the floor when she touched it. If she tried to sleep in a bed, it rocked, and the only place she could rest was on a stone covered with cork. There are different kinds of reasons why people act strange.Hope you learnt something from this.

The Strangest Person I have Ever Met[1st entry-Compulsory Topic][ENGLISH 3RD ASSIGNMENT]

I do know a strange person and that particular guy is the strangest person I have ever met. I do not want to reveal his name as it's not nice offending one another . So let me tell you some of the weird things he did. He used to be my tuitionmate but i do not attend tuition anymore. There was this guy, he's fat and totally weird. Guess what he does? He digs his nose infront of the whole class and eats it!! When i saw it, i felt like puking! It's so gross! He always wears his school shorts very tight. Just to let you know, for this tuition we have to wear our school uniform. He's shorts is so tight and could see the shape. You know very well what I'm toking about. What's more, he's fat and wears his shorts like that! He's socks are very dirty and unbelievably high! He's always sneezing and wiping his nose in a disgusting manner! The way he walks is like as if when you sit on a horse, it moves like it's bouncing up and down! He walks like that! He's always late for tuition and so my teacher called him the VIP! haha! He uses this handkerchief and he brings it to the toilet. Whenever he goes to the toilet and when he comes back to class, the handkerchief will always be drenched like he soaked it in the toiletbowl and there'll be this foul smell floating across the room whenever he comes back from the toilet! I have noticed that all the strange people always carry around a handkerchief and does something gross with it [meant no offense to people with handkerchieves]. Not all with handkerchieves are weird. Not only this, sometimes he's bullied by some of my tutionmates and he cries! When he cries, he's always wiping his face using his hands in a very gross manner. It's difficult to explain the way he does it but just keep in mind that it's strange and gross! When the boys apologise to him, he won't accept but if the girls apologise, he would accept!Sometimes when he's late, he would run to class. Just for running a few metres, he would pespire like hell! Like as if he ran in the rain giving the class a weird kind of smell. So these are basically all the strange things he does. The main point is, it's his nature or maybe some people are like that. We can't really blame them or hate them alot just because of the things they do. I'm sure that when they grow up, they will become more matured and know how to act like a ordinary person instead of a weirdo. If they do stay like that, we just have to accept them in our society because only god knows what other problems they might have. I wrote about this particular guy not to offend him but just to let you know how strange people can get nowadays. He is the strangest person I've ever met but not to offend him in any way.
